Common
questions.

Can I get it before I move?

In Portugal and Spain, often yes, through a representative. In Germany, your Steuer-ID is posted to you after you register your address.

How long does it take in Germany?

The Steuer-ID usually arrives by post within 2 to 4 weeks of registration.

I am a freelancer. Is one number enough?

Not always. In Germany, freelancers also need a separate tax number from the local tax office for invoicing.

Does my family need tax numbers too?

In most countries each adult gets their own, and children often receive one as well.
